  • kenwood excelon dnx6960 great stereo and nav to many features to list i think this nav stereo has all features offered by any manufacture at a reasonable price well worth the money buy one today.
A Decent Item Used I installed the DNX6190 myself about 3 weeks to a month ago. I've only ever installed two head units myself this and a DNX8120 previously. Like many people I gravitated to Kenwood because of the Garmin nav. That is what I am used to.I bought the unit actually both units at different times off of ebay as used items. Had I paid $800$1000 that I have seen online as new or refurbished then I might have taken away a star or two from my review.
Lasted 1 year and 6 months Do not buy this piece of junk. I paid over $600 for Kenwood DNX5140 and it lasted me exactly 1 year and 6 months. Their warranty is only for a year. It just died on me out of no where. Not worth your money.
Great head unit! The user interface of the DNX6960 is very well laid out sources are very accessible the touch screen is very responsive the built in blue tooth works flawlessly and Garmin navigation is the best. I'm very pleased with this purchase.
Defective product After having the unit professionally installed with a brand new Kenwood DNX6160 the HD tuner would cause DVD playback to lockup or video to freeze. My only recourse was to power cycle the head unit. As the head unit runs the video in the backseats for the kids this is a deal killer. After removing the HD tuner there were no playback issues. After searching online I saw that this was a known issue that has not been aknowledged by Kenwood. One individual even documented the issue on Youtube. Contacted Kenwood technical support with no resolution. Back to the shop to have the HD tuner removed and returned.
Make Sure This Unit Is Compatible for Your Vehicle I purchased this and all the little connection gizmos to replace the original navigation/radio unit in my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. Bottom line the audio on the navigation didnt work at all when anything else was on even though the other items went silent when she was supposed to be giving directions and I had no fade control from the front to the back speakers. Best Buy and Kenwood said they couldnt do anything because my original factory six speaker set up had an amplifier that could not be wired around and was interfering. Rather than put another 800 into a substitute new amp I finally installed a small additional speaker dedicated to the navigation and decided to live with no fade. I wish I had gone to a more competent installer than Best Buy and perhaps they would have told me the real deal and I could have saved myself by sending the radio back before it was installed.
Kenwood acknowledges bug but will not fix it You can find the full review at []. I am returning this unit. Be aware that all 2012 models likely have the same problem. When you plugin a USB with very few songs on it e.g. say <500 MB it takes about 15 seconds to recognize the ID tags of the music e.g. artist genre album title. Slow but not a huge issue. When you plugin a USB with what I consider a small library e.g. about 4GB worth of music it takes about 90 seconds to recognize the ID tags. I have a 16 GB USB that has 14 GB on it about 2500 songs. I've waited over 1 hour and it still will not recognize the ID tags. As a result you can ONLY access the folder structure on the USB. You cannot search for songs by artist genre album title etc. The options for category list links etc. will all be grayed out you will not be able to access them. This unit is useless if you can't search for an album to play or an artist or even a song.Ergo if you plan to use this unit with a USB that will have more than just a few songs do not buy this unit. As all 2012 units have the same firmware they will all have this problem. Kenwood acknowledged the problem but said that's just the way it is. A pretty awful response if you ask me.This is a $1000 unit. At that price point there are some very basic things like being able to search by artist genre album title that it has to be able to do. As it cannot do it with more than a few songs this is a joke. Basic testing should have caught this before it even left the lab. And as it appears it's been a problem in past models they should have specifically fixed it.The user interface on this is pretty awful and the ability to customize is even worse e.g. I can't even set my home city on the GPS as the default city when looking up an address which means I always have to put in the city before each address. The only reason I bought the Kenwood over other models is because of the Garmin GPS.
Kenwood Excelon DNX6960 First I would like to say that I'm an amazon.com addict! I buy everything I can from them and ALWAYS appreciate their friendly customer service and lightning fast shipping even through their 3rd party sellers. There is only one reason you should buy the Kenwood DNX6960 If you MUST have Garmin Navigation and if it's priced VERY low. It is the only reason I broke my vow made back in 1995 to not buy Kenwood stereos but this particular model comes up short everywhere else. I had a Clarion before this unit and I only returned it because the GPS was totally unreliable Everything else worked very well. Especially the Bluetooth.
Short but informative review I would first like to start out by saying that I have owned this unit for 9 months now but I'm taking it out today because I recently sold it.Here's the problems with itFIRMWARE UPDATESThe firmware is difficult to update. You have to burn the new firmware to a disc then go to the menu to update it. Sounds easy enough? Well my update button was somehow grayed out.iPod IntegrationOkay depending on what device you have it can be either really slow or really fast. I had an older iPod nano and looking through my 1000+ songs was PAINFULLY slow. However on my iPad 2 with the same songs it was actually pretty fast.GPS MAP UPDATESYeah good luck. The maps on mine were the 2010.10 update which means they were released in 2009 sometime. I don't think there's even an update for the maps yet and how do you even update them anyway? There's NOTHING on either Kenwood's or Garmin's website regarding this. It's probably not going to happen. The GPS is actually very good too but updated maps are crucial.GARMIN FIRMWARE UPDATESFor Garmin firmware updates your supposed to use a microSD card and put the files in a folder named Garmin where then they are supposed to automatically update when you start navigation. Well they didn't.I know Kenwood has released some software updates for this device but they make it way too hard to actually update the product. Map updates will likely never come wither. I really liked this head unit when I got it but it's time to get rid of it while I can still make some money off it. It's a good unit and has a lot of potential but it lacks one thing UPDATES.
Kenwood DNX6160 Awesome Unit D This is an Awesome Unit. The reason I bought this was because of its GPS.Since I have been using Garmin GPSes I am really comfortable with the GPS on this Unit. The iPod features is amazing I play videos and also mp3 from my iPod and it plays it perfectly. The CD and DVD Is great also. The Sound Quality is amazing D The telephone features is amazing also I have had couple phones connected to it. Especially my SE x10i so I can use the Bluetooth Hands free features and it shows your phone book and your battery life also you can send and receive TXT messages with it also. I highly recommend this item to anyone. It is fast and operates amazingly well. I am really glad I bought it.

  • Single DIN mounting, WMA/MP4/MP3/DVD/SVCD/VCD/CDR/CDRW and SDVD compatible, USB and SD Memory Card ports
  • NTSC/PAL compatible monitor, PLL synthesized AM/FM tuner, 30 station presets
  • Resolution: 1440 x 234 pixels, Brightness: 600 NITS, On-screen display

  • Very Disappointing I bought this because it supports USB and SD memory for MP3 playback. I have been plugging my MP3 player in manually and wanted MP3s without having to stop the player every time I turn off the car. What worksIt has a nice radio with touchscreen controls. Digital stations will include station name title and artist info while the song plays though the text is pretty small. It also plays most of the DVDs I have tested though I have not tried any external monitors on it yet. The main screen DOES show DVDs if you have the parking brake set. legal requirementWhat doesn't workThe manual claims to support USB and SD cards up to 32 GB. I have tried dozens of times and could barely get them to support anything at all. Anything more than a few dozen MP3 files and it just locks up. The screen display for USB and SD cards looks like a spreadsheet. Bright washed out text with no album art or graphics of any sort. You can select random mode shuffle but the player will forget this setting when the car is turned off and on again. Overall the USB/SD playback functions are USELESS and that was the point of me getting this unit. The clock has a TINY display sets itself from digital FM stations if available but does not keep time and will tell the wrong time more often than the right one. The other night at about 830 I manually set the clock and when I came back three hours later the clock display was gone and manually checking it showed 8347 . probably a good reason to turn itself offSo I'm out of luck with the built in MP3 player. At least there is a front A/V jack I can plug into.. I tried it and it is dead as a doornail. Will not work no sound will play when selecting A/V input. NOT Nice. The shame of it is that most of these problems are software issues. The hardware works well enough except maybe the lack of a realtime clock chip. The singleDIN size of the unit is great and the unit LOOKS nice enough when playing radio or DVD material. It's just useless for anything else.

Great unit for the price Sound video and functions are all above expectation for the price. I bought mine from Cartoys and had it installed the same day. They forgot to include the remote though. I went back and got a remote but it does not work on this unit. Has anyone had any issues trying to use the remote? I see that my box did not originally include it but all the others do. Oh well. It's a great buy. I have a 12 inch RF sub hooked up to it with a 500W amp pushing it in a 04 PT cruiser turbo. The sound from the deck makes me forget how loud my exhaust is..lol..
Really good I bought this for my boyfriend for Christmas.

      • Junk unitsecond bad unit recieved!! DONT BUY THIS THING JUNKJUNKJUNK..
Cheap price Cheap quality I'm not sure what the people who gave this product 5 stars are thinking apparently they have incredibly low standards. Granted the price is amazing for something with a screen this size and it does play DVD's but I have not been satisfied with this product overall.Radio reception is not good.Touch screen graphics are not good.Sound quality is acceptable.Functionality is very limited.
perfection The product that i order was shipped on time and was very easy to installed. I would order from this company again. I received the order on time as they said I would. With the hands on instructions the product was put installed in just a matter of minutes.
Best Relation Cost Benefit Even though that the display looks like a computer back from the 80's the video quality when playind a DVD is amazing and it has a good sound. the best relationship costbenefit found.
not a bad product I received my in a timely manner. it installed easily and worked wellfor a while. I purchased this product in June. the summer heat here got in the high 90's so the inside heat in my white pickup was pretty hot. my lanzar unit kept trying to default to DVD mode and sometimes the screen wouldn't come on untill the A/C cooled things down a bit. The music sounds great and the DVD picture and sound is great the radio reception could definitely be better. But the graphics of the display while in radio and aux mode are really bad. All the touch buttons work fine but look like 1980's software graphics it's embarrassing and i found no way to do visual upgrades. There's also a usb port on the front that i never was able to use but tried there's no clear instruction how to use it. Ok so now it's October and we had a cold front move through. I got in my pickup early that morning and the temperature was about 25 degrees. the display quit working permanently but everything else still works even the touch screen. but it's hard to navigate a touch screen with no display. All in all everything worked how expected but it doesn't do extreme temperature too well. if you think that was extreme..
Amazing Features Amazing Price Amazing Value! I bought this unit after searching for something that simply had USB inputs but after seeing the abundance of other features for not a lot of $$ more I asked around about Lanzar and even though I couldn't find the manual anywhere online I bought the unit trusting the positive feedback I'd gotten.Indash installation was very straightforward with very common wiring. The unit is easy to use right away although installing the faceplate is a bit awkward til you've done it a few times. It sounds great is easy to use and navigate you can even change the scrolling display to read whatever you want it to! Not only can you play mp3's from a thumb drive but you can play videos and scroll through photos from one as well. The remote is very handy but some of the markings are difficult in some situations red characters on a small black button is tough.
Product sucks I just wrote review and just as I was about to send it amazon deleted it. They must have read the costs of installing then removing then reinstalling the radio. It has no manual.
Lanzar is good all those cry babies out there talking smack about the LANZAR SD55MUBT need to chill. First off where did you actually purchase your system from? Mine was direct from Amazon which I think made a HUGE difference. Based on all the negative reviews I was really worried about my purchase that is until my package arrived this morning.
GOOD DEAL The price is very reasonable for this item with such features. This dealer really means business as the shipping were done smoothly.
Not very good! I didn't expect much because of the price but was kinda surprised when i turned it on. Seemed kinda attractive and good features I loaded a DVD and noticed alot of noise and forever loading. I used it for about a month and the lcd quit working figures! The month I did get to use it I noticed I liked it less and less very cheap and plain looking layout flimsy buttons.

Great for the price Love it. Great for the price love being able to hook my iPhone to the radio. Highly recommend. I was hopeong that when the phone rang I could talk through the speakers.
Thank you mucho! Very A+ service and product. It's nice to have the convenience of NOT having to step foot in a Best Buy or some electronic store to shop around. You have certainly boosted my confidence about online shopping.
Good Relation Price/Quality I bought this for my car and replace the OEM radio I think it's work perfect and is just what I need at this time. When you're using a Flash Drive It can read the files very quickly and its easy to browse through the folders if you had taken your time to order the folders and songs in the flash drive.ProsLCD and buttons Color customizationQuickly and Easy search of songsExcellent PriceHas a lot of choices to customize the sound of the speakers Lows highs loudness etc.
Good radio worth more than it sells for. I bought this radio from a seller on Ebay for $109 and it included shipping to Hawaii. It is a very good radio and I really like the multiple colors of the display. You can also set it to remain on the color that you like. It is not that hard to operate. Only drawback is the display stays on after turning the radio off if you wire it to able to play with the ignition off. I have it mounted in my boat and I like playing the radio when we're stopped. So I have it wired to always be on without having to turn on the key. Only way to turn off the display is to release the faceplate. Not a big deal to do this. The reception is excellent and sound is great. I would recommend this to anyone thinking about buying it.
perfect just what I wanted thank you very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very much.
great cd player I am satisfied with this cd player. It was easy to control and install. the only down side is that the repeat button is hard to get to. Questions? just ask will reply.
Very Happy with Pioneer Stereo I purchased a Pioneer stereo from Amazon as a refurbished item. My husband installed it in less than 2 hours and it sounds great.

I am on the road 3 out of 5 days a week making sales calls through it. Purchased the Blue tooth adapter and it works as good as any of them out there. Once in a while I have a bad connection but easy to disconnect and go direct to my BB and talk. looking to add a couple of 12 base units and amp looking forward to many more days on the road.
Not bad for my first InDash DVD Player I have really liked this indash DVD player. It has many features that are attractive such as the touch screen SD Card input front AUX input and the USB input for Ipods. The biggest selling feature for me was the built in navigation which works really well. The downside is that the whole mechanism that reads the CDs and DVDs quit working after just 7 months. I now have to uninstall it and send it to get fixed which is lame. Other than that its been a good system. I might post future updates hopefully I don't have to wait too long to get it back from being repaired.

        • Good Features Tragic Interface Alright I love the features and you can't beat the price. Everyone has said that and it's true. The interface is tragic though. It's clunky scattered unintuitive and all in all seems pretty poorly thought out. Poorly in the sense that any middle school kid could have come up with a better interface.
positive deck installed perfectly into my lincoln town car and works great..bluetooth easily pairedsytems has good sound and picturepaid 300 for the unit and so far it is worth every pennyi personally didnt need navigation being that i have a smartphone and it comes built in..shipping i ordered my package around 5p.m on wednesday chose the 2day shipping and it arrived around 10a.m friday..this was my first purchase through amazon.
the Good and the Bad I purchased this product on July 1 of 2010. the product is very user friendly. I especially love the built in Bluetooth feature. yes they do sell an external mic for bluetooth but honestly you do not need it. my Droid phone syncs up with it as soon as you turn the car on. Very powerful unit and made my factory speakers really sound good once you adjust all of the audio settings. Aside from all of that very good product. Now for the Bad. Like I said I purchased this in July of this year. Hear it is midNovember and the touch screen stoped working.
like! PRO..Bluetooth works well i stream music from my cell. no jacks attached usb is ok.CON..Don't care for the menu set upwhen scrolling through menue every music stops playing.when all is said and done I like this unit would reccomend it.
Clarion vx400 This is by far the worse item u can buy. Very slow feels like a middle school kid designed it. I returned it and went with the pioneer p3200bt and it is nite n day difference. It is like going from windows 98 to windows 7. Do not buy u will regret it n feel like I did when I had to replace it.
Looks good but usb function crippled for no reason.. I bought this product for my wife because it had bluetooth and was from a reputable company but overall the product is a let down.I went through all the reviews but no one mentioned a couple crucial flaws with the unit so I will focus on them as the good has been covered in many reviews.**CONS**Interface like everyone says is very clunky and not very intuitiveTouch screen is not that responsiveThe tuner doesn't seem powerful can barely get some stations she used to get with old Alpine unitUSB cable is really short doesn't read some devices like my hd2 and worst of all can only play mp3/wma no video format. I mean seriously all these no name brand companies allow to play video files/audio/images. It doesn't allow you to navigate the USB drive where you can view your folders it just generates a list of mp3/wma files it finds on the drive.I can see the screen flickering especially at the home screen maybe a defective unit but a heads up to anyoneNot sure if it supports video files burnt onto a DVD in data format and not DVD video format i.e videos saved in different folders If it doesn't then this is a really a poor choice on the manufacturer's part my neighbors' Boss unit does all this with easeOverall I wouldn't purchase it again because of its short comings.
Awesome Deck This deck is great. Good power output and plenty of options to play with.. Works well with my ipod and mp3 cds. The only negative thing I have for this product is the display picture. The VX 400 is not the navigation model.
Halfbaked POS So many things wrong with this crap don't know where to start. Interface is so unintuitive USB and Ipod interface is buggy and navigation with the NP400 Nav module is confusing and frustating. Save urself the hassle and go elsewhere. Had mine for about 1.5 years and had enough looking for another unit to replace this piece of junk.
GOOD BUY Great buy works with Iphone 4 you just need to buy the adapter and its all good from there. I had to modify it by buying a toggle switch so i can watch movies while ill drive. Blue tooth works good just raise the gain on the mic so they can hear you. gps is ok. other then that it really worth the money.
Below expectations I purchased this unit for my 2006 Camryand it fits the dash perfectly. However this unit does not live up to expectations compared to similar units from Pioneer Sony in its price range. There are no screen savers for the kind money this unit costbluetooth has to be constantly resettouchscreen sensitivity has to be also recalibrated constantlyphone speaker left or right speakerkeeps switching from original setting not easy to manually save your favorite radio stationsIt has to scan and save which will include stations not preferred.Tuner is not the best. I know lesser units that have better quality tuners.I paid $250.

        • Really a nice radio Navigation DVD CD with Blue Tooth I recently bought a Toyota Sienna that had all the bells and whistles. I loved the Bluetooth feature and rear view camera that I wanted to buy it for my Yarisonly I had to buy this after market product.I am not going to give some scientific review that talks all about each and every feature of this radio. I am a simple person and I think this review is provided for those of us who want to know if this radio unit works well and is not so complicated to use.It does work well. It is somewhat complicated to use but not so much that you can figure it outeven without reading the user manual. The radio takes a little figuring out as programming channels takes a little guess work combines with trial and error. The navigation feature is easy to use and from my experiences to date very accurate. The DVD isn't something I really cared about and came with the unit so I haven't even tried it yet. The CD works fine as does the remote control that makes operating the CD and radio much easier than the touch screen. The one thing that I can say that makes this unit dangerous is that it provides a level of distraction that has almost resulted in a couple of accidents. I was paying more attention to the radio than the road and missed hitting another car. If you are easily distracted think twice before getting this. Trying to operate the radio and drive is a challenge that you will not quickly master. I have invoked a personal policy to not change the radio or program the navigation while I am in motion. I would recommend that very strongly!Overall I would buy this again knowing everything I now know by benefit of having it for a week or so. I am sure in the coming weeks I will develop a more thorough understanding of all the features and make an update. If you can afford it purchase these options on your car when it is new and you get a much more polished and sleek product. This unit mic and rear camera looks like fish out of water. It works works well but looks like it doesn't belong.Hope this helps with your buying decision!UPDATE 10172011After almost 2 weeks the major thing I want to warn people out is the TomTom system. You have to take out a module that is like a hard drive and hook it up to your computer. After repeated attempts to link into the TomTom site to activate the map I never could get through. I got a internal server error. I contacted TomTom's customer service email and they had suggestions but none of them worked.

        • Support for DVD, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, CD, MP3, WMA, and MP4 formats

        • works great I have owned this product for about 6 months and it works great for me. The music and the images are clear. I did not like that mine did not come with bluetooth when I thought it did and the touchscreen is not that good.
Worth it I had Best Buy install this deck into my car for free I got hookups. It is a cool deck. The DVD function will not play DVDs from America? It says something about the region of the DVD and the region of the player. However I can watch homemade DVDs of my family Anyways whatever. The thing that really bugs me is the bluetooth. In the manual it says to select the Bluetooth icon and then it will go into pairing mode. The icon is gray and I cannot even select it. Great? The SD card slot for me goes unused. I use a flashdrive and plug it into the USB. You can also charge your iPod/iPhone via USB.The touchscreen is decent. Its not top of the line but I always end up hitting the right icon. I mainly use the remote to select music and control the basic functions of the deck.I'm in northern CA and this deck was shipped to me 4 days from actual purchase. Everything was fine inside the box perfect condition. The words on the screen can be a little small. The screen is surprisingly nice. Not fuzzy or dark or anything. It is big enough to watch DVDs from the back seat in my 97 Civic coupe. 3inch wide screen is fine if you have a small budget and want something different than everyone else.I really want that bluetooth func. to work though.
Great RADIO for the price Ok I installed the radio in my jaguar xj6 and it looks great. The DVD player works good touch screen function works perfect and the Bluetooth is easy to configurate. This is third product I purchase from Xo vision and no problems at all.For the low price you are receiving a very nice unit with a lot of funtions.
Good for the pricebut not great This car stereo very functional and aesthetically pleasing but not as user friendly as I would have liked or expected it to bethe owner's manual that is included with this item is practically uselessso if you like me decide to buy it anyway you're on your own! I haven't checked yet to see if there is more info about this stereo online yet but I pretty much have it set up in a way that works for meall in all it is a good value.
I purchased an mp3 player from XO Vision and must to my chagrin after three months the player stopped working. So beware of product purchases from XO Vision. Incidently in no way did I abuse the mp3 player such as dropping or immersing in water.
XO Vision A good product. Didn't come with a wiring harness or the zpodlink cable or any mounting brackets. Finally after getting everything installation went smoothly. Bluetooth does not work. Can you help me set it up?!? The icon is just gray.
What a product! WellI bought the XO vision DVD usb player couple months agoand its off the chainits sooo convenient..

        • Familiar control gestures and large capacitive touchscreen designed specifically to allow safer access to compatible iPhone 4 content

        • GarryR3148 My 21 year old son helped me select this radio for my F350 diesel knowing how much I love the iPhone. The start up is a little slow but not a problem for me and the reason I purchased this unit was to have a hands free phone unit a charger GPS radio and iPod music. Pioneer has updated the software for the iPhone and the radio unit since I purchased it a couple of months ago and it is now a wonderful radio and meets my expectations. The hands free phone is clear both talking and listening and the sound through the speakers is easy to hear. It can be setup for auto answer or just touch the icon and it will answer the radio mutes and the caller ID displays number and name of the contact if they are in your phone. The radio also displays recent calls missed calls dialed calls and you can even play your voice mail through the radio. Also the radio connects to my phone via bluetooth as soon as I get in the truck and has an icon indicating that it has connected so even if the phone is not hard wired it's connected. The iPod plays well but selecting songs albums playlist is not as easy as on the iPhone. I tend to listen to playlist or artist so this is no problem for me and it really isn't difficult but Apple spoiled me. The Motion X GPS is top notch but they charge twenty bucks for voice directions not a bad deal. They also update the GPS through the Apple app store so you get the updates just like your other apps. The GPS can be used with the radio playing so you get directions while listening to music. The GPS is great the best I have used the screen is clear the voice is good and it is easy to hear. The visibility of the larger screen makes a huge difference and it returns to GPS after phone calls if you have it setup for a trip. The GPS gives great directions voice reminders right up to the turn good visual display with miles to next turn estimated time of arrival everything most people would expect.
Great idea horrible execution The Pioneer App Radio looked like the ideal system for my new truck it's sleek sexy. If you're willing to cough up another $250 you can add a backup camera that automatically kicks in when the vehicle is in reverse a feature I love on my Toyota Prius as well as the ability to keep an eye on your trailer while driving ideal for a truck. Add to that a seamless integration with my iPhone 4 and seemed like a dream come true.Except that it doesn't work very well. At all.As many other reviewers have pointed out even after the latest firmware upgrade the unit frequently locks up and won't respond to anything short of actually turning your car off and restarting it. Just by itself this is completely unforgivable. There's also this the AppRadio App itself feels like a trap to get you to install several applications that Pioneer has partnered with and most of these apps cost money AND require paid subscriptions. Most iPhone owners I know already have popular apps that fill these functions and many of them are free.Add to that the fact that the unit is riddled with so many legal disclaimers and warnings about using the device while driving that it's actually impossible to simply use your radio in any remotely normal fashion while driving without being distracted. Every other thing you click on brings up another disclaimer. Here's your morning commute with any normal car radio on earth Start your car turn on the radio drive away. Here's your morning commute with the revolutionary Pioneer App Radio. You start the car and after a 20 second flashy ego branding logo screen the app radio boots up into a legal disclaimer page about viewing visual content while driving.
Save your money Pioneer should never have released this product to the public in its current form. It is full of bugs and is a real pain to operate 9 months after its release new firmware update made no improvements. I've been a fan of pioneer for many years and have owned quite a few flagship nav receivers ex. Z120BT but pioneer is notorious for not updating firmware that listens to customer complaints. Each year they just release a new unit. Sure there are some updates but to get back to the point I wholeheartedly recommend you steer clear of the appradio unless you absolutely cannot afford to save some $ for a better unit. The price keeps dropping what does that tell you? I can't wait to get this out of my jeep! This unit is locked on certain functions for safety reasons easily bypassed while you are in motion but this is easily the LEAST safe unit they've ever created. You have to constantly push buttons on the phone then the radio and it switches back and forth for the apps or freezes and won't accept your finger press etc. Bottom line it's a mess. I gave it one star above what it deserves for being a good idea but poor execution.
So glitchy it is dangerous. I almost never review anything but this product is so incredibly glitchy and inconsistent in its behavior that it is dangerous to have in the car because it is a nonstop distraction. Every single application has some kind of serious glitch or behavior inconsistency that will have you constantly fiddling with the phone or suffering with the thing not working.
Just what I expected If you have trouble working a radio with knobs and a dial dont get this radio and complain about it. It does what it's supposed to do but it can be frustrating to someone who can't work it.
good idea gone wrong I had this radio was a good idea but it has a lot of problems. First problem I had was the radio would completely lock up if i was on the phone when before the bluetooth would conect. I would have to restset the radio all the time to get it to work again. Then there are not alot of useful apps that work with this radio. The Gps the outdated with lots of location missing. The sound is bad compaired to what you get with another unit of the some price range. All in all it just a bad raido save your money.
An adventure through inconvenience and poor quality! My goodness where do I begin? My experience with the Pioneer AppRadio is very bittersweet and not the best story I'm afraid.I purchased my unit from Best Buy brand new and factoryfresh and it was professionally installed in my sports car. I purchased an extra dedicated iPhone 4 just for use with this AppRadio and I had a really professionalquality mount installed into the dashboard for a more permanent installation of the iPhone 4 which would be completely dedicated to running this new AppRadio.Needless to say I was very excited. I will say that the installation team at Best Buy in Little Rock were extremely knowledgeable and very professional and friendly and took the extra measure to do a really nice installation.Only two weeks into having the AppRadio the screen went completely dead. Black zilch nothing. Of course I was heartbroken and quite upset about it. I called Pioneer technical support and they were rather lackluster in assisting me and were really of no help. Luckily the installation at Best Buy carries a lifetime warranty for as long as I own the stereo and this vehicle so I went back. Surely I figured something simple like a blown fuse or perhaps a loose wire would be the culprit. No big deal!Well I was sorely mistaken. They took the unit out and set it up on their workbench and it would not power on no matter what they did. The unit was completely and utterly dead. Unfortunately there were no more AppRadios in stock in any of the stores I purchased one of the last they had since Pioneer was releasing the new AppRadio 2 which was both iOS and Android compatible. So they could not just give me another one.I was told that I would have to send my unit into Pioneer for repair and they would either repair it or send me a REFURBISHED UNIT which really upset me but after thinking about it as long as it WORKS and still carries the full warranty then I don't care. But now the story is just starting to get interesting.I became rather acquainted with the staff at Best Buy because of my constant shopping there I am a computer engineer and I am always in there for SOME thing or other and I was taken aside and told in confidence that just about every single Pioneer AppRadio that they had sold had all been returned with the same fate. There is an inherent design or quality flaw in the production of these units and they ALWAYS die very quickly. They had taken so many back in it was ridiculous! WHAT?? How could Pioneer let such a horrible product out on the market? I suppose they figure it was too late and they would just fix them as they go..
The more I use it the more I love it I do not understand why this radio has some bad reviews but I wanted to write my own experience out just in case someone has doubts about this particular model radio. I bought mine a few weeks ago and to be honest was not quite impressed with it at first. I paid for installation on my Pathfinder which was a little more expensive since I have a Bose system and the guy made a hole through the side of my glove compartment so that my iPhone cable would come out and be stored in the glove compartment. This particular detail I did not like. The radio and the iPhone work hand in hand there is no such thing and only using the radio or only using the iPhone unless of course you just want to make calls via blue tooth or you want to listen to the radio those two things do not need to iPhone plugged in for.
crAppRadio comes with crappy service too. I purchased this radio in late August of 2011. Now it is late April so 8 months ago. I knew that the radio was a new thing and had a lot of glitches but being a diehard iPhone fan I sprung for it. I dealt with the glitches the freezing and the poor interface very well. Unfortunately however the cord that connects the iPhone to the unit went bad. It was a gradual thing first the AppRadio display would be pink and green because the iPhone connection was faulty. Soon I would need to attempt to connect and reconnect the phone over and over before the radio would see it. Until one gloomy sad day when the iPhone wouldn't plug in at all and as is already known the radio can do nothing without the iPhone accept play the radio which sounded terribleDespite hopes of a simple matter of replacing the cord I got the joy of a painful and excruciating process with customer service. In short I was told that I'd get the new cord no problemo but after getting them all the documents that they needed they finally told me that I HAD to remove the cord and ship it to them at my own cost. THEN and ONLY then would they ship a new cord.
A day in the life of an App Radio user Every day that I have to drive somewhere I feel pangs of disappointment about my Pioneer AppRadio. What could have been a really killer app is just a source of frustration. On paper AppRadio has all the promise of the Ford Sync indash bluetooth system. In practice it falls short in every possible way. Here's a quick walk through of what you have to endure every time you turn on the ignition1. Get in your car and connect the smartphone an iPhone in my case to the big black cable coming out of the radio. Wait 30 seconds for the selfserving animation on the splash screen to play through. As owners of the AppRadio do we really need to be subjected to Pioneer's AppRadio advertisement every time we turn the key?2. The first of four warnings pops up with a caution telling you how bad an idea it would be to actually to use your App Radio3. A second prompt comes up asking you to unlock your iPhone and reconnect it when it's safe and lawful to do so4. After unlocking and reconnecting a third prompt comes up explaining that viewing of front seat video source while driving is prohibited. What does that even mean? Are they afraid you're going to view a video podcast? It goes on to tell you that you need to apply your parking break release it apply it again and press OK. This as you might guess gets you nowhere. literally.04. Fourth prompt is the AppRadio app requesting permission to communicate with the Pioneer DisplayUnit.OperationRadio Usually within about 10 minutes the App Radio will shut off the radio and switch to Pandora for no apparent reason. Other times it will just shut off the radio and not switch to anything.IPOD playback of music & podcasts from iTunes library is decent when it works. Lately the iPod source switches to Pandora for no apparent reason.Streaming Pandora works quite well so in order to avoid prohibited interaction with the AppRadio just leave it on PandoraOther notesVery few apps work with the AppRadio yet. If Waze the BEST voice guided navigation app around would add AppRadio compatibility with iPhone it would help considerably. Waze already has the Android AppRadio connector working so one would think that this is going to happen.Final thoughtAll the legalese and warnings make this a barely usable device. It's particularly galling that the AppRadio does not recognize that there could be a passenger operating the system. It keeps on accusing the user of trying to do something illegal.
