Decent doubledin unit with builtin bluetooth I spent a long time researching the best doubledin stereo to buy for my '02 Acura RSXS Motorola Triumph phone and iPod Nano. I ended up buying and loving this Sony unit for it's capability but disliking it's lack of usability and ipod control. I've owned the unit now for a few months and here are my feelingsThe pros of this unit are Clear screen Builtin Bluetooth audio streaming that works with Android smartphones Voice Dialing Album artwork displayed from iPod Functionality/Capability Wired mic is included for handsfree calling Plays DivX video content Auto syncs with my phone nicelyThe cons of this unit are USB connection on the front disconnects if it is nudged could be a dealbreaker if you have manual transmission Response time after tapping the screen is slow Bluetooth audio streaming with my Triumph phone cuts in and out sometimes iPod navigation is unsatisfactory hard to disable demo screens when turning off the unit but it is possible Cannot customize titles of stored radio stations they just say M1 M2 M3 etc Haven't yet figured out how to place a call while listening to music then have the unit go back to the music. It does return to whatever you were listening to after receiving a call however. No meta data from bluetooth I might as well use a stereo mini cordI give this unit 3.5/5 stars for being above satisfactory. However to someone else looking for a way to enjoy iPod and Bluetooth streaming I would tell them buy your doubledin HU based on how it controls your ipod and forget about Bluetooth streaming on Android. It's not ready for primetime yet.One of my petpeeves with my phone is how difficult it is to autostart some music playing when Bluetooth streaming connects but this is not a fault of the unit.The iPod functionality works well once you've selected a playlist but selecting a playlist takes a good 2030 seconds. There is no scrolling through iPod lists just agonizingly slow pageup and pagedown buttons. Likewise there is no ability to jump to a certain spot in an audio track. For the features at this price I have to give this unit an A it has everything. For using those features comfortably while driving and not I give this unit a D.The sensation I get from using the unit is that it's a slow and sleepy touchscreen with alot of options it doesn't want to share with you.
Great Stereo The Sony XAV62bt DVD Receiver is great stereo. It has many features that are found on more expensive units. The ease of use and sound quality are excellent. I previously had an older Pioneer single DIN stereo. In my opinion this Sony has much better sound quality than the Pioneer. I don't consider myself to be an Audiophile but the clarity of the audio on this unit is a marginal improvement over my previous stereo.ProsGreat sound quality with a high assortment of options to customize and tweak the sound. The user interface is easy to use and navigate. The bluetooth feature is easy to set up and use. The call quality on both ends with the bluetooth is great. People on the other end can hear me clearly and I can hear them clearly. The bluetooth audio streaming is also a great feature that works very well. The USB input on the front is an excellent feature as well. I purchased a small lowprofile 8 gb usb flash drive and loaded all my music on it. The video playback looks good on the screen and the sound quality is pretty good as well. It plays a variety of video formats as well.ConsThe user interface has some minor lag when navigating back and forth between the menus. It takes a little while to load up music from the USB drive.Overall the stereo is great purchase. I cannot comment on the ipod function because I don't use an ipod. It has a great feature assortment for the price.
Great product This double din radio is just fantastic. It has bluetooth to connect to my phone awesome. It fit my ford f150 perfectly looks factory. The usb port is great for adding your own music. DVD's are small but pretty cool to watch. Really like this radio.
Featureladen unit with impressive sound quality I decided to wait a few months before reviewing this unit since my initial impressions were tainted by worrying about how sensitive the touch panel is based on some of the earlier reviews. Having said that here are my observations based on my usageTouch screen Don't believe the negative reviews about a slowtorespond screen. I decided to take the plunge despite reading some horrible accounts of how slow the screen is to react to input simply not the case. I've had no issues with screen response in all the months I've had it regardless of ambient temperature. Yes occasionally you do get the periodic ignore of a key press but it in my experience it is typical of most touch screen panels I've used I have both an iPhone 3G and a 3GS and both exhibit this behavior on a regular basis. I will note however that this screen does suffer from a lot of glare when the sun is out but this is usually not a huge problem for me as long as the screen is set to Auto which triggers the backlight function when the headlights are off.Sound As some folks have pointed out outofbox sound quality is not stellar with this unit and in my opinion is really designed for use with an amp. I originally set this up in my car 2003 Toyota Matrix before I got all my other equipment and it was definitely an upgrade from my older system JVC KDR00 in terms of sound quality. However that pales in comparison to what it sounds like now after adding two amps Polk speakers and an 8 Pioneer sub wowzers!Most would argue that sound isn't Sony's strong suit since the 80s however this system really works well when paired with at least an amp and decent speakers. Moreover this is the only system I could find on the market at this price point during my research that at least approached 5.
What were they thinking?? If you plan to use your iPhone or an iPod Touch with this unit look elsewhere. It can't play audio books but in Sony's defense how many people could possibly want to play an audio book in their car? Oh wait lots. The control buttons on the touchscreen are so small you will hit the wrong one again and again. Haven't seen the video performance yet as you have to order a specialized cable for use with Apple products.
So far so good. It's a pretty smooth unit and was relatively simple to install. Unfortunately the fit kit didn't fit and the screws that came with the unit are so short that it's impossible to use them. It's pretty easy to use pairs with my iPhone flawlessly and general appears to be a fine quality product.
Just installed and WOW I just installed this unit in my 99 Toyota corolla didn't know if it would fit the center console storage pocket removed the pocket used the rackets an fits perfectly. No need to trim any where. Tested it out and so far for double din I love it placed a DVD in it and started up o.k. Plays excellently bright and beautiful screen lengthy of settings need some time to go though and set/test everything. Surprised it didn't come with remote ordered one online yesterday but happy it came with the microphone for my Bluetooth phone.
Touchy and buggy The good price screen quality features usb and aux interface is very nice.The bad touch screen is buggypress selections and nothing happens press selection and the screen minimizes and so on only 4 rca outputs with either sub OR rear on one set an audiable clicking noise comes from the speakers when switching between tuner channels.
good buy item fits the description. screen is a little touchy some times but overall it works as well as i thought it would.
Great Unit This is my second XAV unit from sony. The first one was killed by a power surge from an amp blowing up.I tried getting other units but I came back for the XAV again.The this unit is great. Sure the menus are 1 second delayed and the Ipod controls are super slow butwhy are you using an Ipod with this unit anyway? Throw your music on to a jumpdrive and away you go. You can get super small jump drives that will hold hours of music. The menus and setup are simple and easy to use. I have never used the manual in setting these up. In addition the hands free is great. All I do is get in my car the phone is in my pocket and the unit syncs with the phone quickly and doesnt slow down startup on the unit. The quality is clear and its stops the music when you get a call.The unit also allows steaming through bluetooth so you can play anything through your phone. The unit also shows the phones battery life signal and other icons to show which features are on.Over all I am very happy with this unit. The previous unit I had before was the older version of this. The screen is much better and more responsive and the unit seems to be faster. Hopefully this one will last much longer.
